Researching archaeology and participating in Mochena Borago excavations solidified my choice of undergraduate major and provided an unforgettable study abroad experience. I recommend this trip to anyone looking for an enriching trip to study human origins.

I love every single student, staff member, and Ethiopian met during our stay! I was able to step outside my comfort zone and bond with a group of people I never would have met if not for this program. I am so grateful for the opportunities and experiences I gained during this trip!

UF in Ethiopia was a one of a kind education experience in which we were able to completely immerse ourselves into the culture of the people and gained valuable insights into life outside of the west. As someone who wants to pursue a career in archaeology, the hands-on educational experience is everything I could’ve asked for.

UF in Ethiopia was an incredible experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life. This was my first time experiencing anything close to what it would be like to choose a career in Anthropology and it taught me a lot about the passion people have for the work they do in archaeology and how exciting it is to be part of a field school. I visited Africa for the first time, tried new food, experienced my first field school, and made a bunch of new friends.

UF in Ethiopia provides those who are looking to become an archaeologist with a fascinating start. That is, if one seeks archaeological enlightenment by making the classroom the real world, participating in a project alongside real and experienced archaeologists that seek to understand one of humanity’s most mysterious times, SWEAP is a most valuable experience. UF in Ethiopia was a life-changing program for me.

I am really appreciative that this field school was made available to students outside of UF. The ability to have to many mentors available throughout the program added to my experience greatly. There was never a dull moment during the program and I felt that I was always learning something. I would definitely recommend this program to others who want to further explore ideas in archaeology and The Horn of and East Africa. I have completely fallen for Ethiopian culture and the potential for further study there.

Before going on this program, I was told that when you go to Ethiopia once, the rest of your life is just figuring out a way to get pack. This couldn't hold truer for me as it was such a life changing experience. I have already gone back since my semester ended and have plans to go again soon.

My time in Ethiopia helped me to discover parts of myself that I didn’t even know were there. It pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way imaginable. Being exposed to cultures and places so different from those that I am used to was incredibly refreshing. Those two months were the greatest I have experienced so far in my life.

Without a doubt, with no exaggeration whatsoever, UF in Ethiopia was the grandest experience I have ever had. As an educational experience UF in Ethiopia is completely unmatched by any other kind of learning I have done before. It was hands-on learning at a new level. Real-life archaeology is nothing like it is in the movies; it’s way better in reality.
